Luang Sakoen Cave - Tham Sakoen National Park

General Information

Luang Sakoen Cave is a medium-sized cave with a 20-meter-wide cave entrance. The cave consists of a 600-meter-long tunnelwith stunning stalagmites and stalagmites and is home to numerous bats. According to its  lengthy history,  the “Ko Tribe” originally migrated from Sipsongpanna town and later split to live in  two rural areas: “Ban Suea Kin”, which is now Ban Sakoen; and “Ban Dong  Son Khuean”, which is now Ban Suan Khuean in Phrae Province. Those at Ban Dong Son Khuean and Ban Don Suan Khuen both manufactured gunpowder for Nan’s war against Burma. To collect bat droppings from the caverns each year in the past, they were required to make a ritual offering to Lord Sakoen, the cave warden.  The tradition remains  today. Once the required amount has been collected, a votive offering must be made , and the bat droppings site will be closed for the remainder of that year. The coordinates are 47 Q 0661736 E 2142508 N.
