Background

The Royal Forest Department considered that the forest areas within the Ong Phra Forest National Reserved Forest, Khao Phu Rakam Forest, and Khao Huai Phlu Forest in Dan Chang district in Suphanburi, which was formerly named Phu Toei Forest Park, Phu Krathing Forest Park, and Taphoenkhi (preparing) Forest Park, and the surrounding forests are abundant and deserve to be preserved.
As a result, the Royal Forest Department issued an order number 1224/2537 dated July 21st, 1994, authorizing Mr. Phanthep Antrakul, a Forestry Technical Officer Level 6, to conduct an additional research and establish Phu Toei forest park and Phu Krathing forest park, which is part of Ong Phra National Reserved Forest, and Khao Phu Rakam Forest in Suphanburi province, as a national park in accordance with the National Parks Act 1961. Mr. Phanthep Antrakul was appointed as the superintendent of the national park. His survey revealed that these areas consist of significant and valuable natural resources, such as forest plants and wildlife, as well as beautiful scenery, forests, mountains, islands, and waterfalls; therefore, the areas should be designated as a national park to preserve them in their natural state, unaltered or destroyed.

The ministry approved it in principle on July 1st, 1997, with a royal decree specifying the areas of Ong Phra Forest, Khao Phu Rakam Forest, and Khao Huai Phlu Forest in the areas of Ong Phra subdistrict, Huai Khamin subdistrict, Nikhom Kra Siew subdistrict, Wang Yao subdistrict, and Dan Chang subdistrict, Dan Chang district of Suphanburi to be established as a Phu Toei National Park, which was published in the Government Gazette, Volume 115, Part 67 Ko, dated September 30th, 1998. It is the 85th National Park of Thailand.
