Background

       Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Her Royal Highness has a view to improving the economy, education, and culture of all Thai people, and created a plan to help the people of Ban Bang Manao, Moo 1, Kaluwo Nuea Sub-district, Mueang District, Narathiwat Province. Her Majestywanted to promote tourism to help the villagers. As a result, the Pattani Forestry Office accepted the royal initiative by exploring the Khao Tanyong National Reserved Forest and areas outside Thaksin Ratchaniwet Palace to create a forest park with a total area of approximately 23,278.25 rai (37.2452 square kilometers). The Royal Forest Department was registered with the name of the Ao Manao Forest Park on April 21, 1993.

          Later, Dr. Plodprasop Surasawadi (former Director-General of the Royal Forest Department) went to work in Narathiwat Province and Her Highness informed him of the policy to establish the Ao Manao Forest Park as a marine national park. The area consists of the sea and abundant natural resources along the coast, as well as white sandy beaches interspersed with rocks. It is a famous tourist attraction for people in Narathiwat Province and from neighboring countries such as Malaysia. Ao Manao Forest Park is adjacent to Thaksin Ratchaniwet Palace, which is visited in every September and October by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to perform duties. which the marine national park division were assigned explore Ao Manao and prepare the area to be designated as a National Park.

In 2001, Dr. Plodprasop Surasawadi (Director-General of the Royal Forest Department) renamed the area the "Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong National Park."

         The Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong National Park is a national park that combines fertile areas and beautiful nature.

         The consists of whith sand and rocks along the coastal aea. The uniqueness of the beach forest that looks different in Ban Bukit Ao Manao area, Moo 12, Kaluwo Nuea Sub-district, Ao Manao Area, Mueang District, Narathiwat Province. There is a great diversity of plants, with the national park covering approximately 23,278.25 rai (37.2452 square kilometers).

Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong National Park covers areas in the Khao Tanyong National Reserved  Forest, which is outside the scope of the Thaksin Ratchaniwet Palace, and the Ao Manao beach area, on the east of rural road along east-west in the Accelerated rural development Road. in the east and west In the area at Ban Bukit Ao Manao, Ban Khai and Ban Bang Manao, Kaluwo Nuea Sub-district, Mueang District, Narathiwat Province

The territories are as follows:

North: The area in the Gulf of Thailand has a radius of about 3,000 meters from the coast.

East: The Royal Palace area of Thaksin Ratchaniwet

West: Ban Bang Manao Community, Moo 1, Kaluwo Nuea Sub-district, Mueang District, Narathiwat Province, and a radius of about 3,000 meters from the coast.

South: Ban Khai Community, Moo 2, Kaluwo Nuea Sub-district, Mueang District, Narathiwat Province.

          Ao Manao Beach is a sandy beach interspersed with small and large outcrops, which are mostly granite. Next to the beach is a mountainous plain that is connected to a foothill. The hill is called Khao Tanyong, which is 293 meters above  mean sea level. Hills around Khao Tanyong National Reserved Forest has a slight gradient of 5–15%. Ao Manao covers an area of approximately 36,300 rai (58.08 square kilometers). 

          Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong National Park is 300 meters above sea level, Most of the area is seawater, which covers about 85%t of the area. The beach area covers about 4% and the mountain area 5%.

The topographic features include white sandy beach alternated with rocks.

       The area has a tropical monsoon climate in which there are two seasons. The rainy season can be divided into two phases; the first period is influenced by the southeast monsoon, 

which carries moisture from the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean, causing the rain from mid-May to mid-October. Another period is under the influence of the northeast monsoon, which is dryer but has winds and depressions blowing in from the Gulf of Thailand. 

There is more rain in November to January and the area is prone to flooding. 

     - The highest rainfall was about 604.0 millimeters.

     - The lowest rainfall is approximately 45.3 millimeters.

     - The average temperature throughout the year is about 27.2 degrees Celsius.

     - The highest temperature is about 30.0 degrees Celsius.

     - The lowest temperature is about 24.0 degrees Celsius.

     - The average relative humidity is about 81%t.

     - The highest humidity is about 87.0%.

     The headquarters of Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong National Park consists of a sandy beach and high hills, which leads to differences in natural vegetation and wildlife that areclassified as follows:

The Beach Forest covers the beach area from the National Park Headquarters until the hillside. It has a sparse forest where the trunks of the trees are bent due to the wind or the space available between the rocks. Essential plants include Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.) Roxb., Morinda coreia, Garcinia speciosa Wall., Terminalia catappa, Knema angustifolia, Atalantia monophylla DC., Hydnocarpus ilicifolius, Indian Oak, Microcos tomentosa Sm., Diospyros areolata King & Gamble, Spondias pinnata, Memecylon ovatum SM, Alexandrian Laurel,., Millettia pinnata (L.) Panigrahi, Eugenia grandus Wight, Cerbera odollam Gaertn., and Hibiscus tiliaceus.

A dry evergreen forest is located in the higher area that is home to important plant species such as Shorea glauca, Litsea grandis (Wall. ex Nees) Hook.f., Fagraea fragrans, Seashore Screwpine, Golden Fig (Ficus Benjamina L.), Cynometra ramiflora, Vitex pinnata, and Neonauclea purpurea (Roxb.) Merr.Dr. Chaowalit Niyomtham found the large Atalantia monophylla around the National Park Headquarters area.

   The Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong National Park is located in the Khao Tanyong Special National Reserved Forest and has territory adjacent to the royal court of Thaksin Ratchaniwet. Wild animals living in this area may travel between the national park and the royal court in search of food and water. Animals discovered include squirrels, chipmunks, giant squirrel, musk, Pangolins, porcupines, monkeys, Langur, Indian Muntjac, Reticulated Python, Cobra, Malayan pit viper, Red Junglefowl, Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus), and Oriole. In addition, Queen Sirikit released mammals such as Sambar, Indian muntjac  and the mouse deer in the Khao Tanyong Special National Reserved Forest to help improve the ecosystem.
