Information
San Kala Khiri Mountain range is a complicated mountain range on theborder between Thailand and Malaysia, located in Saba Yoi District, Songkhla Province. The forest is rich and filled with many interesting plants and wildlife, as well as having beautiful nature features. It is a forest upstream of the Thepha River and worthy of preservation. As such, surveys were conducted to establish a national park to protect and preserve the natural resources that exist forever.
Background
Mr Somphop Sukwong was asked inspect the conditions of the forest area in Songkhla Province in 1995 and found that the Thueak Khao San Kala Khiri Forest, Thueak Khao To Thep National Reserved Forests, Khuan Hin Lap Forest, Khao Daen National Reserved Forest, Khuan Chedi Forest, Khao Phraya Mai Forest, and the forests of Khuan Kamphaeng and Khuan Raso National Reserved Forests, Khuan Nam Ron Forest, Khuan Soro Forest, and Khuan Bang Phla Forest were fertile forests and this forest is also a waterhead forest.
Branches of Thepha River are important to the livelihoods of people in the Saba Yoi District and nearby districts. In addition, the people of Moo 2, Ban Rai Nuea, Ba Hoi Sub-district, Saba Yoi District, Songkhla Province, together with the Ba Hoi Sub-district council, have proposed establishing a national park in order to conserve this forest.
The Royal Forest Department issued order 1127/2543, dated June 6, 2000, for Mr. Somnoi Phatthametha, Forest Management Officer 6, who was working for the National Park Division under the Natural Resources Conservation Office, to took the position of the superintendent of San Kala Khiri National Park in Pattani, Songkhla and Yala Province included conducting a survey of the area that could become a national park.
San Kala Khiri National Park reported the results of the survey according to a letter dated January 15, 2001, which declared that the surveyed area was suitable. The area should be established as a national park, consisting of the Thueak Khao To Thep National Reserved Forest and Khuan Hin Lap Forest, which are located in Ba Hoi, Chanae and Thung Po Sub-district,
Khao Daen National Reserved Forest, Khuan Chedi Forest, Khao Phraya Mai Forest and Khuan Kamphaeng Forest, which are located in Khao Daeng Sub-district, Khuan Raso National Reserved Forest, Khuan Nam Ron Forest, Khuan So Ro Forest, Khuan Bang Phla Forest and To Thep Forest are located in Thung Pho and Khao Daeng Sub-district, Saba Yoi District, Songkhla Province. This national park has a total area of 134,599 rai, or approximately 215.36 square kilometers, and has been approved by every subdistrict administrative organization and the Subcommittee on Prevention and Suppression of Smuggling of Forest Resources in Songkhla Province, in the meeting No. 2/2001, dated December 18, 2001,

The general terrain characteristics in San Kala Khiri National Park are that of a complex, mountain landscape series that stretches to the Thai-Malaysian border. Khao Khuan Kamphaeng is the highest peak at about 500 meters above sea level. It is a catchment area for the Thepha River Basin. Water Resources The main catchment area in the San Kala Khiri National Park is the southern basin on the east coast and The tributary basin is the Khlong Thepha Basin. The Basin Watershed quality classification in San Kala Khiri National Park consists of watershed class 1A, representing 53.60%, followed by watershed class 2, covering the park's area with 25.97%, watershed class 3, accounting for 11.64%, watershed class 1B, accounting for 5.46%, and watershed class 4, representing 3.33%, respectively. |
The park may be influenced by the northeast monsoon and the southwest monsoon which create abundant rainfall. There is a long rainy season between May and January, and a slightly less rainy summer between February and April.

The forest in this park is a tropical rain forest with densecanopies containing many important and rare species such as Lum Pho (Intsia palembanica), Khai Khiao (Parashorea stellata), Saya, Tabak (Lagerstroemia calyculata Kurz), Saet Chor (Heritiera javanica (Blume) Kosterm.), Tangnah (Calophyllum tetrapterum Miq.), Takhian (Hopea odorata), Khae Hin (Stereospermum tetragonum DC.), and Krishna (Aquilaria crassna). Most of the wild animals found are medium-sized or small, such as birds, reptiles, insects and various rare wildlife such as Tapir, guar, Bengal tiger, fishing tiger, Barking Deer, Chamois, and birds such as wild fowl, magpie, Elephant-Jawed Hornbill, Smooth-Billed Hornbil, Rhinoceros Hornbill, and Reed Bird.

How to get there by car :
Visitors can travel by car along National Highway 43 (Songkhla - Pattani), before turning onto Provincial Highway 4085 through Thepha to Saba Yoi District. From Saba Yoi District, follow Highway 4095, which passes through Ban Khao Daeng and Ban Tham Talot, Turn left and it is about 40 kilometers to reach the National Park Headquarters.
