Background       

             Khlong Phanom National Park is located in Khlong Sok, Phanom and Phlu Thuean Sub-district, Phanom District in Surat Thani Province.  The terrain is that of a steep limestone mountain range and it has a lot of ranfall throughout the year. It is a source of the Tapi River, which is the only significant river in Surat Thani Province.

           The plant community is a fertile rainforest with exciting features, including Kaeo Cave, Nam Lot Khao Wong Cave, Ton Sai Waterfall, Khao Wong Waterfall, Phai Chiang Run (Dendrocalamus spp), Bua Phut  (Rafflesia kerrii), and rafting on the river. It is also a source of valuable and rare plants, such as Hopea pierrei Hance, Aphanamixis polystachya, Indian Oak, Sandoricum koetjape (Burm.f.) Merr., Artocarpus rigidus Blume subsp. rigidus, Phyllanthus columnaris Mull.Arg., Queen's Flower, Ceylon Ironwood, Cnestis palala (Lour.) Merr. and Michelia champaca. The total area is approximately 256,500 rai, or 410.4 square kilometers.

          More than 80% of Khlong Phanom National Park's terrain is steep limestone mountains, which form the watershed for waterways that flow into = Phanom Canal, Sok Canal,  Saeng Canal and Yan Canal, which are tributaries for the Phum Duang Canal a tributary of the Tapi River.

          Water resources, Watershed area, Quality classification The main watershed of Khlong Phanom National Park is the Khlong Phanom Basin, which flows together with the Saeng Canal as the source of the Phum Duang Canal, a tributary of the Tapi River. The classification of watershed quality in Khlong Phanom National Park mainly consisted of watershed class 1A, representing 71.08%, followed by watershed class 2, accounting for 19.98%.

          Most of the canals around Khlong Phanom National Park flow from the south to the east, and include Bang Nai Si Canal, Bang Phan Nak Canal, Saphan Tao, Phanom Canal , Song Phi Nong Canal and Lam Khli Canal, which flow into Saeng Canal and Sok Canal  and then into Phum Duang Canal, which is a tributary of the Tapi River.

         There is heavy rainfall almost all year round, during the rainy season from May to December. Most rainfall is during August–October, and the hottest month is April.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                

                    

         The plant life in Khlong Phanom National Park is that of a tropical rain forest which consists of a fertile forest in the middle. This is an area that is home to many valuable plant species, such as Malabar Iron Wood, Dipterocarpus, Aphanamixis polystachya, Barringtonia pendula (Griff.) Kurz, Sandoricum koetjape (Burm.f.) Merr., Artocarpus rigidus Blume subsp. rigidus, Phyllanthus columnaris Mull.Arg., Queen's Flower, Mesua ferrea L., Cnestis palala (Lour.) Merr. and Magnolia champaca.

Wildlife

             The Khlong Phanom National Park is home to a complete forest that a habitat for wild elephants, deer, Serows, tigers, bears, Tapir, Indian Muntjac, Mouse Deer, monkeys, Langur, Sunda Flying Lemurs, gibbons, squirrels, Red Junglefowl, many birds, and reptiles.

 

 

How to get there by car : 

        From Surat Thani city, take the Surat Thani - Takua Pa road, or the bus from Surat Thani to Khao Sok. Turn off at the milestone No. 90 (old), in front of the Khlong Panom National Park sign. Then walk for 200 meters to the National Park Headquarters.

      The route to Khlong Phanom National Park is along Highway No. 401, and the National Park Headquarters is located at the milestone No. 55, The headquarters are about 200 meters from the main road.

Khlong Phanom National Park does not offer any accommodation. There are camping grounds and restaurants, but there is no tent or equipment rental service.
