Sai Thong National Park is located in the Nong Bua Rawe, Thep Sathit, Phakdi Chumphon and Nong Bua Daeng District in Chaiyaphum Province and covers an area of about 199,375 rai (319 square kilometers). It borders with Pa Hin Ngam National Park and Phu Laenkha National Park. It is part of Phang Hei Mountain range.
The forest at the start of the rainy season is not only lush with small and large plants but is also breathtakingly beautiful with Krachiao flowers blooming in the field, known as Thung Bua Sawan, and stunning Sai Thong Waterfall and the cliffs for everyone to challenge their fear.
Background
Due to the area of Phang Hoei Mountains Forest and Na Yang Klak Forest in the locality of Tha Yai and Tham Wua Daeng Sub-district, Nong Bua Daeng District, Ban Chiang, Chao Thong and Wang Thong Sub-district, Phakdi Chumphon Minor District, Nong Bua Daeng District, Huai Yae and Wang Takhe Sub-district, Nong Bua Rawe District, Pong Nok Sub-district, Thep Sathit District, Chaiyaphum Province consisting of natural resources of important and valuable nationalities such as plants, forests, and various wildlife, as well as the most beautiful scenery forests and mountains such as Sai Thong Waterfall, Bua Sawan Field, etc., it should be designated as national parks according to the National Park Act,1961
The Office of the Council of State has issued a letter No. No Ro 0602/723 dated May 13, 1992, that the Cabinet has approved the principle of drafting a royal decree designating the forest land areas mentioned above. And the Secretariat of the Cabinet has issued a letter No. No Ro 0203/9140 dated May 28, 1992, that the Office of the Council of State has completely revieIthe draft and order the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to revoke the reserved forest in the area that overlaps with the National Park in order to avoid the problems with the enforcement of the two laws. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives then submitted a letter No. Ko So 0713.2/43143 dated December 16, 1992 approved in such remarks about the overlapping reserved forests.
The Cabinet Office has a letter No. No Ro 0203/855 dated January 21, 2536, announcing that there is a decree specifying an area of land in Phang Hoei Mountains and Na Yang Klak Forest in Tha Yai and Tham Wua Daeng Sub-district, Nong Bua Daeng District, Ban Chiang, Chao Thong and Wang Thong Sub-district, Phakdi Chumphon Minor District, Nong Bua Daeng District, Huai Yae and Wang Takee Sub-district, Nong Bua Rawe District and Pong Nok Sub-district, Thep Sathit District, Chaiyaphum Province to be a National Park. This was announced in the Government Gazette, Volume 109, Part 126, dated December 30, 1992, under the name "Sai Thong National Park", and it is the 77th National Park of Thailand.

Sai Thong National Park is in the Phraya Pho Mountain range and the Phang Hoei Mountain range. Its topography consists of several high and low mountains lying up in a complex manner. Its elevation ranges from 300 meters above mean sea level to the highest peak of Khao Phaeng Hoei which is at 1,008 meters mean sea level. It is a forest area upstream of Pong Khun Phet Creek, Chiang Tha Creek, Yae Creek, Yang Creek, Chao Stream, and Chiang Stream, which is a tributary of the Chi River.

This forest area is classified under the a seasonal tropical rain climate which is influenced by the monsoon. The seasons can be divided into 3 distinct seasons as follows: The rainy season is between May and October. Most of the rainfall is from thunderstorms. The influence of the depression is minimal. The rainfall in September is heavy. The winter runs from October to February, and summer runs from February and lasts until May.

Forest condition of Sai Thong National Park can be divided into 3 types: The dry evergreen forest is found in the northern part of the Phraya Pho Mountains range and the middle of the Phang Hoei mountain range. The important plants are Lagerstroemia , Anisoptera costata Korth. , Hopea ferrea Laness, Black Rosewood, Wild Mango, Burma Padauk, Copper pod, Papilionaceae., and Velvet tamarind, etc. Deciduous deciduous forest is found mainly on the ridges and the lower slopes of the Phang Hoei Mountains. Important plant species are Evergreen Chinkapin, White-Meranti, Burma Sal, Shorea siamensis, Gurjan, Vitex pinnata, Haldina Cordifolia, Xylia xylocarpa, Crown flower, Irvingia malayana, Great elephant apple, Bamboo, and various types of grasses and mixed deciduous forest. Many plants are not found. The important plants are Burma Padauk, Xylia xylocarpa, Lagerstroemia calyculata, Black Rosewood, and various types of bamboo. The wild animals that can be seen in Sai Thong National Park include Wild Boars, Bamboo rat s, Asian palm civet, musk, Barking Deer, Mouse-deers, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Wild Hares, Field Jays, Hawks, Crows, Hawks, Wild Fowls, Monitor Lizards, Common butterfly lizard, Geckos, Chameleons, Snakes, Frogs, Common tree frogs, Green paddy frog, Asian painted frogs, and etc. and various kinds of fish are also found in different water sources. |
How to get there by car :
The Sai Thong National Park Headquarters is far from Chaiyaphum City about 70 kilometers and far from Nong Bua Rawe District about 37 kilometers along. Take National Highway No. 225 - the Chaiyaphum-Nakhon Sawan route. There exist a junction which you can turn right and travel for another 7 kilometers to reach Sai Thong Waterfall.
