Background
In 1976, the Royal Forest Department’s Secretariat book stated, “King Bhumibol Adulyadej, His Majesty wishes to conserve the forest in Mae Sam Sub-district, Si Satchanalai District, Sukhothai Province. The area is densely forested and home to a variety of wildlife. Local residents in this area and nearby have benefited from the water generated by the forest’s watershed. According to Prime Minister General Kriengsak Chamanan, the Royal Forest Department should designate the area as a forest park as directed by the King’s wishes.”
The Royal Forest Department called for a meeting on January 30, 1976, and issued a letter to the Forest Management Division (under the National Park Division and Wildlife Conservation Division) to appoint a representative to work with Tak and Sukhothai Provincial Forest Offices to investigate forests in Mae Sin-Mae San (So Tho 1) project. The working group had investigated the area and concluded that this forest area should be established as a National Park, especially in the forest area that is a water source. The Royal Forest Department then issued an order to conduct a preliminary survey the Mae Sin-Mae San Project Forest Area. It concluded that the area is an important water source, with various valuable plant and animal species. There are also several waterfalls with beautiful scenery, suitable to be established as a National Park.
The Royal Forest Departmentt has submitted a proposal to the National Park Boerd. Which agreed to designate the area as a National Park during a meeting on December 12thIn, 1978, the area was designated suitable by the National Park Service and Forest Department and the and to use the name “Si Satchanalai National Park” was established. The area will include in conjunction with a royal decree establishing the boundaries of Mae Sin, Forest, Mae San Forest, Mae Sung Fang-Sai Forest, and Mae Tha Phae Forest in the Mae Lon, Mae Sam and Ban Kaeng Sub-district, Si Satchanalai District, and Klang Dong Sub-district, Thung Saliam District in Sukhothai Province. To be designated a National Park in 1981, as published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 98, Section 70, dated May 8th, 1981,The area became Thailand’s is the country’s 26th National Park in 1981, covering approximately 3.0.34 square kilometers“

The ecosystems in Si Satchanalai National Park can be classified into 4 types as follows: (2) Mixed Deciduous Forest without Teak has a sparse tree covering with mostly medium-sized trees. The forest floor however is densely packed with many different types of bamboo. In the dry season, most of the trees shed their leaves, and the area is prone to forest fires. This area is smaller than the evergreen forest, and the important plant species are Lagerstroemia calyculata Kurz, Lagerstroemia Tomemtosa, Lagerstroemia Speciosa, Xylia zylocarpa, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Afzelia zylocarpa, Cassia garrettiana, Cassia Fistula, Dalbergia assamica, Irvingia malayana, Mangifera caloneura, Dillenia s suffruticosa, Diospyros dasyphylla, Lannea coromandelica, and Adenanthera pavonine. (3) Mixed Deciduous Forest with Teak is similar to Mixed Deciduous Forest without Teak. It is rarely found in this National Park. Its main species, unsurprisingly, is Teak, as well as Schleichera oleosa, Xylia xylocarpa, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Canarium subulatum, Bombox anceps, Dalbergia dongnaiensis, Dalbergai Assamica, Garuga pinnata, Spondias pinnata, and Afzelia xylocarpa. (4) Deciduous Dipterocarp Forest can be found on both the plains and the high mountains. The soil is lateritic soil, which is reddish in color and know locally as Pa Daeng. It is a sparse forest with small and medium-sized trees that are scattered between overgrown, grassy areas. Common plants include Arundinaria pusilla, and various types of bamboo. Wildlife: |
