Information  

         Travel down National Highway No. 106 until the junction between Thoen District in Lampang Province, and Li District in Lamphun Province. At this point,  travelers have the opportunity to appreciate the deciduous dipterocarp forest and the dense mixed deciduous forest on both sides of the road. This forest is even more beautiful when the trees change colors before they drop their leaves during the dry season. This forest is one of the most intact deciduous forests within the conservation area of the Doi Chong National Park
It has an approximately area of 336.3 square kilometers which reside in the districts of Sop Prap, Thoen, Mae Phrik District in Lampang Province, and Li District in Lamphun Province.

Background

          The Royal Forest Department decided to survey the forested areas in Sop Prap, Thoen, and Mae Phrik District in Lampang Province, as well as the local forest area at Li District in Lamphun Province. The general topography is a complex mountain landscape with the highest peak, Doi Chong, at of 1,379 meters above sea level. The scenery is breathtaking, with mixed deciduous forest, dry evergreen forest, and coniferous forest (pine forests). It is also a catchment area and was deemed suitable to be designated a National Park.

       The general topography are fold mountains that are part of  the Thanon Thongchai Mountain range, which stretches from north to south and is approximately 40 kilometers long. The elevations are from 270 to 1,379 meters above sea level. Doi Chong’s summit is the area’s highest point at a height of 1,379 meters above sea level. It is the source of numerous significant waterways which feed into the Wang River in the Lampang Province and Ping River in the Lamphun Province.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 The climate is that of a tropical monsoon which has three seasons: summer, which lasts from March to May, rainy season, which occurs between June and October, and winter, which lasts from November to February. It is relatively hot in summer, and cold in winter. On the top of the mountain, it is cool all year round, and very cold in winter. The maximum temperature is approximately 40 degrees Celsius, and the lowest is 4 degree Celsius.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                    

Forest Resources
In the area of Doi Chong National Park there are many types of forest, including
       1. Mixed deciduous forest, which includes significant plants such as are Teak, Iron Wood, Burma Padauk, Black Rosewood, Malabar Iron Wood, Lagerstroemia calyculata Kurz, Terminalia alata Heyne, and various types of bamboo. The lower ground consists of grasses and plants in the ginger family such as galangal.
       2. Deciduous dipterocarp forest, which includes significant plants such as Burma Sal, Burmese Sal, Hairy Keruing, and Dipterocarpus tuberculatus. Undergrowth plants include Dalbergia darlacensis, Cycad, and various mushrooms.
       3. Hill evergreen forest which includes essential plants such as evergreen Chinkapin, Castanopsis diversifolia, Quercus helferiana, Merkus Pine (Pinus merkusii Jungh & De Vriese), Khasiya Pine (Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon), Eagle Wood, Cinnamon, and lower ground species such as mosses and ferns.

Wildlife Resources
       The wildlife includes Serows, Bears, Indian Muntjac, Wild Boars, Foxes, Snakes, Common Palm Civet , Squirrels, Pheasant, Red Junglefowl, wildfowl, various birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and various insects


How to get there by car :    

        Doi Chong National Park Headquarters are located in Sop Prap District, Lampang Province, To get there from Lampang city travel south along Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Road) for about 54 kilometers. After arriving at Sop Prap District Office, turn right onto Department of Public Works Ban Lai – Ban Kaen Road when you arrive at Ban Na Mai Daeng from Phahon Yothin Road. Turn left after about 7 kilometers and you will reach Doi Chong National Park Headquarters. The total distance from Mueang District Lampang Province is  approximately 68 kilometers.
