Information  

          Doi Pha Klong National Park is located in the Long, Mueang, and Sung Men District of Phrae Province. The topography is mountainous, with natural outcrops and tower karsts. Limestone is prevalent, and it is known as the Maharat Stone Forest. Thecoutcrops are incredible complex and emerge from the natural ground, providing a cool, shaded atmosphere. The park attracts a large number of visitors and is known for its distinctive Doi Pha Klong Mountain range as well as being a river catchment area. The Doi Pha Klong National Park is approximately 117,982 rai or 188.77 square kilometers in size.

Background

          The Phrae Regional Forest Office and Phrae province all implemented a rock garden policy in 1987, which was vital to the creation of the Maharat Stone Forest Park. It is locatedMae Ta Fang-Sai National Reserved Forest in Ta Pha Mok Sub-district, Long District, Phrae Province and commemorates His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 5th birthday and to serve as a recreational area for the public, which has already been approved by the Royal Forest Department. A survey explored the Huai Khamin Forest, Mae Ta Fang-Sai National Reserved Forest, Huai Bia - Huai Bo Thong Forests, and Mae Yae - Mae Sang Forests, of Ta Pha Mok Sub-district, Long District, Wang Hong, Tha Kham, Wang Thong and Pa Maet Sub-district, Mueang District, Wiang Thong, Rong Kat, and Ban Pong Sub-district in Sung Men District, Phrae Province, in order to establish a National Park.

        The Royal Forest Department has issued order 1627/2532 dated On Octobe 19th 1989, the Royal Forest Department authorized Mr. Prapas Inthkaew to further explore and establish the of Mae Ta Fang-Sai Forest, Huai Bia - Huai Bo Thong Forset, and Mae Yae - Mae Sang Forests in Phrae Province as a National Park. According to letter No. Ko So 0713 (Pho Ko), dated January 19, 1990, is a National Park.The area is characterized by the Doi Pha Klong Mountain range, is  a watershed and home to a well-known cave. As such, it was called the "Doi Pha Klong National Park".

           The National Park Division  granted approval for the title "Doi Pha Klong National Park," and Mr. Prapas Inthkaew, reported that it was suitable for a National Park on 13th January 1994. In the Bo Thong National Reserved Forest, Mae Ta Fang-Sai Forest and Mae Yae Forest, Mae Sang Forest in the Tha Kham, Wang Thong and Pa Maet Sub-district, Mueang Phrae District, Pha Mok Sub-district, Long District, Wiang Thong, Rong Kat, Ban Pong and Sop Sai Sub-district,  , Sung Men District in Phrae Province was free from human occupation.

           In 2007, a royal decree established the area of Huai Bia and Huai Bo Thong forests, Mae Ta Fang-Sai Forest, Mae Yae Forest and Mae Sang Forest areas in the Tha Kham, Wang Thong and Pa Meat Sub-district, Mueang Phrae District, Ta Pha Mok and Ban Pin Sub-district, Long District, Wiang Thong, Sop Sai, Ban Pong and Sop Sai Sub-district, Sung Men District in Phrae Province above as Thailand’s 107th National Park.

         The topography consists of tower karst mountains, as well as some plains on the hillside. There are also some  natural outcrops. Additionally, particular Phrae Regional ForestOffice Teak forests were planted to rehabilitate the forest, and these helped the catchment areas of the Yom River, Khamin Creek, Pha Kham Creek, Bia Creek, Nam Rin Creek, Mae Ta Creek, and Mae Sang Creek.

 

 

 

 
 
 

 

 

 Winters are quite colddue to tower karst mountains terrain and the variety of plants, with temperatures ranging from 8 and 12 degrees Celsius on average. Summer is not particularly hot by Thai standards, with anthe average temperature of approximately 30 degrees Celsius. The rainy season begins in early May and concludes in October. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    

 

                    

        Forests inside the park include deciduous forests, which are classified into two types: mixed deciduous forests and economically significant forests. Teak, Burma Padauk, Iron Wood, Black rosewood, Dalbergia cultrata Graham, Tamalin, Millettia leucantha Kurz, Millettia brandisiana Kurz, Hopea odorata, Lagerstroemia calyculata Kurz, Tomentose wrightia, and Deciduous dipterocarp forest are the predominant species with Burma Sal, Burmese Sal, Hairy Keruing, Dipterocarpus tuberculatus Roxb, Green Pome, Schleichera oleosa, Spondias bipinnata Airy Shaw & Forman, and others encountered.

        Wild animals are abundant,  including Serow, Indian Muntjac, Mouse Deer, Slow Lorises, Common Palm Civet, chipmunks, Kloss's Mole, wild boars, rabbits, squirrels, snakes, and various birds and fishes.

 

 

 

How to get there by car :    

       From Phrae Province, take provincial highway No. 1023, Phrae - Long District. The Maharat Stone Forest is approximately 20 kilometers from the town at milestone No. 19 - 20. of the National Park Headquarters is located there and the roads are entirely. This route is open all year and is served by buses from the Phrae-Long District.
