Background

In 1989, the province of Phetchabun found a beautiful waterfall that could become  a tourist attraction. As a result, the Royal Forest Department was commissioned to survey the Ta Bo National Reserved Forest and Huai Yai Forest in Mueang District, Phetchabun Province, in order to establish a National Park in 1991.

The Royal Forest Department has issued a letter No. Ko So 0712.3 / 244, dated February 15th, 1996, by the resolution of the meeting National Park Board No. 4/2537 on November 8th, 1994, the establishment of the Tat Mok National Park, Phetchabun Province was approved the Royal Forest Department on February 15th. It would include the Ta Bo Forest and Huai Yai Forest in the Huai Yai and Ban Khok, and Na Pa Sub-district, Mueang Phetchabun District in Phetchabun Province. to be a National Park to present a draft royal decree for the Cabinet to consider for approval.

Later, the National Park Division issued a letter No. Ko So 0712.3/1275, dated 14 August 1996, requesting for additional information as part of the establishment of the national park according to the Cabinet's resolution on 22 December 1992 if there are any people living in the area. The report from Tat Mok National Park in accordance to letter No. Ko So 0712.425/65, dated 18 July 1996 declared that the area has no settlement as the government and villagers in Phetchabun work well together to protect the forest. It was proposed to the Cabinet for consideration.

The Cabinet's resolution on 24 September 1996 approved in principle the draft decree to mark the areas in Ta Bo Forest and Huai Yai Forest in Huai Yai, Ban Khok, and Na Pa Sub-district, Mueang Phetchabun District, Phetchabun Province to be a National Park, in accordance to a letter No. No Ro 0214/13816, dated 26 September 1996. The draft decree was sent to Office of the Council of State for consideration.

The areas designated as National Parks overlap with the National Reserved Forests at Ta Bo and Huai Yai National Reserved Forests. The Royal Forest Department should proceed with the delisting of the National Reserved Forest, which coincides with the National Park area by the draft Royal Decree and the Royal Forest Department confirms the draft decree prescribed by the draft committee decree amending for the observations of the Council of State that the Royal Forest Department issued a ministerial regulation to revoke the National Reserved Forest that overlap with the area that has been declared a National Park will be implemented later.
