Information

        Kaeng Chet Khwae National Park encompasses the Kaeng Chet Khwae Forest Park and Phu Daeng Ron Forest Park, both of which are home to stunning waterfalls along the Khwae Noi River. It is a popular tourist destination that is 121,779.79 rai (244 square kilometers) in size and resides within Wat Bot, Chat Trakan, Nakhon Thai, and Wang Thong District of Phitsanulok Province.

Background

         Thai forest areas havebeen invaded, destroyed, and occupied at an alarming rate, which creates natural imbalances that can create drought and increase the impact of seasonal rains. To reduce and eradicate deforestation the government's policy is to protect more forest areas with the hope that fertile forests return. A report from the Phitsanulok Regional Forest Office was received by the Royal Forest Department that Kaeng Chet Khwae and Phu Daeng Ron Forest Park areas were both stunning tourist destinations and they are the the surrounding forest is still intact and suitable for designation as a National Park.

            The Royal Forest Department has issued Order 911/2537 dated May 30th, 1994 and research was conducted by Mr Jongklai Woraphongsathorn, Forest Officer Level 4,  in order to establish the National Reserved Forest near Kwae Noi Stream, and Suan Miang Forest in Phitsanulok Province. The report stated that the area was suitable for designation as a National Park, especially the areas of Kaeng Chet Khwae Forest Park. In Ban Yang and Khan Chong Sub-district, Wat Bot District, Phitsanulok Province. both sides of the National Reserved Forest on the Khwae Noi River, (Ministerial Regulation No. 704,1974). the Suan Miang National Reserved Forest (Ministerial Regulation No. 1,158, 1986), Suan Miang Sub-district, Chat Trakan District, Phitsanulok Province, Khao Krayang National Reserved Forest (Ministerial Regulation No. 977, 1982) is located in Nong Krayang, Ban Yaeng Sub-district, Nakhon Thai District, Ban Klang, Kaeng Sopha Sub-district, and Wang Thong District in Phitsanulok Province. The total areas is approximately 140,544 rai or 244 square kilometers in size.

            Local villagers thought the areas was farmland for the people, and the location of the farmed land in a reserved forest area was an issue. This was moved to outside the designated National Park area. The boundaries are  with Khao U Mong in the north, the south is bordered by National Highway No. 2, the east by Ban Pong, and in the west it is bordered by the road to Ban Nong Ka Bak.

        The summer season runs from February to April, during which the weather is quite hot with an average maximum temperature of 32.2 degrees Celsius. The rainy season lasts from May to September, and provides cooler winds that cross the reservoir above Khwae Noi Bamrung Dan Dam. September is the wettest month, and there is annual average rainfall of 1,482 mm. Winter is between October and January, and is pleasant and conducive to tourism with average temperatures of 27.5 degrees Celsius

 

 

 

 

 

    

 

                    

       The general forest conditions include mixed deciduous forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, hill evergreen forest and dry evergreen forets which contains a variety of essential and economically valuable plants such as Teak, Black Rosewood, Iron Wood, Burma Padauk, Malabar Iron Wood, and Dipterocarpus. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including Indian Muntjac, Wild Boars, Monkeys, Langurs, Common Palm Civets, Hedgehogs, Rabbits, numerous species of birds, various types of snakes, and the Clouded Monitor Lizard, as well as aquatic animals such as numerous species of fish.

 


 

 

 

   How to get there by car :    

        The Kaeng Chet Khwae National Park headquarters can be reached by car via Highway No. 11 in the Wat Bot district of Phitsanulok Province. Take the first right onto Highway No. 1296 and continue straight along Ban Pak Phan - Ban Kaeng Khanna, from which you will arrive at the Kaeng Chet Khwae National Park Headquarters. The total distance to Khwae Noi Dam, a royal initiative project, is approximately 72 kilometers.
