Information
Khun Sathan National Park is located on the Mae Nam Nan Fang-Khwa National Reserved Forest at Na Noi and Na Muen District in Nan Province. The area covers 457.3 square kilometers and is mostly covered by a variety of forest types, including mixed deciduous forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, coniferous forest (pine forest), hill evergreen forest, and dry evergreen forest. Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds, Fish, and Various insects are all inhabitants of the Park.
Background
The Nan Provincial National Park Center issued a letter No. Ko So 0712 So O Cho Cho. Nan/1, dated April 7th, 1998 to the National Park Section of Royal Forest Department stating that the area around Huai Mae Khaning National Reserved Forest, Nam Sa Forest and Sakorn Fang-Sai Forest, and Mae Nam Nan Fang-Khwa Ton Tai Forest in Wiang Sa, Na Noi, and Na Muen District in Nan Province The forest resources are plentiful and the wildlife is truly unique. There is the potential to develop tourist attractions and recreation areas and it is an appropriate area for the establishment of a National Park. The area is in total between 480 and 640 square kilometers. A survey was announced by the Royal Forest Department who sent rangers to consider whether to designate the area as a National Park.

Khun Sathan National Park's topographical is that of a fold mountain (complex mountain landscape), with a north-south axis of steep elevation. The ridge on Doi Prae Mueang, which serves as the demarcation line between Phrae and Nan Provinces has an elevation between 120 and 1,726 meters above sea level. The boundary of Uttaradit and Nan Provinces is marked by the Nan River, and numerous waterways, uch as Nam Haeng Creek, Nam Un Creek, and Nam Li Creek, serve as the catchment area for the Nan River. The major summits in the park include Doi Chuang Prasat (1,193 meters), Doi Mae Chok (1,469 meters), and Doi Ku Sathan (Doi Thog) (1,634 meters), and the highest summit is Doi Phu Kha, at 1,726 meters above sea level. |
Khun Sathan National Park's climate characteristics are that of a moist area, and it is humid throughout the year. The climate can be divided into three seasons, which are a brief summer in March and April, a rainy season from May to October, and winter from November to February. The maximum temperature is 30 degrees Celsius with a very low minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius in winter, according to climate data from 1992 to 2008.

Khun Sathan National Park's ecosystem can be classified asHill evergreen forest along the ridge 1,000 meters above sea levelwhich is prominent in the areas of Doi Khun Huai Ya Thai, Doi Khun Huai Hok, and Doi Khun Sathan. Plants and ground plants living there includeLithocarpus cerifera, Anneslea fragrans, Garcinia speciosa, Michelia champaca, Helicia nilagirica, Siam Benzoin, Cycas Siamensis, and ferns including the Rough Tree Fern. Coniferous forest (pine forest) is present on the summits of Doi Chuang Prasat and Doi Prae Mueang, which are approximately 1,300 meters above sea level. There is a small area of Merkus Pine (Pinus merkusii Jungh & De Vriese), Khasiya Pine (Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon), Hairy Keruing, and White-Meranti in humid, dense forest, along withDipterocarpus costatus, Chukrasia velutina, Microcos tomentosa Sm., Syzygium megacarpum, Leea indica Merr, and Jackal Jujube. Deciduous dipterocarp forests occur along ridges that are 700–1,000 meters above sea level and they include ground plants such as Burma Sal, Burmese Sal, Hairy Keruing, White-Meranti, Buchanania latifolia, Green Pome Tree, Cratoxylum formosum (Jacq.), Mitrayna Korth, Cycad, Amanita hemibapha, and Cantharellus odoratus. Dry evergreen forests are found in the park in small clumps, and house lower ground plants such as Hopea odorata, Toona ciliata, Cinnamomum iners Reinw, Knema angustifolia, Neolamarckia cadamba, Duabanga grandiflora, ferns, Paco Fern, Angiopteris evecta, Elephant Ear, Rosy Russula, and Craterellus aureus, as well as orchids, such as Bulbophyllum siamense. The wild animals found in Khun Sathan National Park include the Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Black Bear, Sambar Deer, Serow, Wild Boar, Monkeys, Common Palm Civet, Hog-Badger, Arctonyx collaris, Burmese Hare, Kloss’s Mole, Bamboo Rat, Squirrels, and birds such as the Myna, Parrots, Oriole, Woodpecker, Racket-tailed Drongo and Indian Roller Lizards include Ground Lizard, Clouded Monitor Lizard, Blue Crested Lizard, Variegated Bent-Toed Gecko, and a number of frogs, Green paddy frog, Asian painted frog, Asian common toad The river above the Sirikit Reservoir is home to a diverse array of fish species including Nile Tilapia, Red Tinfoil Barb, Giant Gourami, Giant Snake-Head Fish, Common Carp, Striped Snake-Head Fish, Sand Goby. Grey Featherback, Soldier River Barb, Walking Fish, and Henicorhynchus siamensis. |
How to get there by car :
Khun Sathan National Park is accessible from two directions:
• National Highway No. 101 (Yontrakit Kosol Road) connects Phrae and Nan provinces. Mu Ban Huai Ket is 50 kilometers from Phrae from where you turn right onto Highway No. 1216 in Phai Thon, and travel approximately 26 kilometers to the Khun Sathan National Park temporary headquarters.
• From Nan Province, travel along Highway No. 101 to the Wiang Sa District. Turn right onto Chao Fa Road, National Highway No. 1026, between Wiang Sa and Na Noi District, approximately 35 kilometers from Wiang Sa to Na Noi District, and then turn right from Na Noi. Along Highway No. 1216. From there it is approximately 31 kilometers to Khun Sathan National Park's temporary headquarters.
