Information
Khun Chae National Park is named after the Khun Chae Waterfall in Chiang Mai Province, and it is approximately an hour north of Chiang Mai via the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai Highway. It was founded in 1995, and iIt is a critical watershed within the National Park, encompassing an area of 270 square kilometers. It is endowed with an abundance of natural resources, including forests, wildlife, waterfalls, and scenic views, although it is bisected by the National Highway 118 (Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai).
Background
As a result of the national forest's current state, resources are scarce, as has been the case in previous seasons, such as the rainy season, floods, and hot summer weather. Winters are bitterly cold which has caused the indiscriminate use of forest resources. There is land use, forest and land occupation, as well as forest resource encroachment and destruction for personal gain, regardless of the consequences. As a result, the government has closed forest concessions across the country and implemented a policy of conserving forest resources within national forests. Now, it is classified as forest for economic purposes to decouple resource management from academic principles and achieve objectives more quickly.
The Royal Forest Department believes it is necessary to carry out the government's policy of conserving the fertile environmentwithin the National Park so the Royal Forest Department issued an order on March 23rd, 1989, appointing Mr. Sumet Singkwa, Forestry Technical Officer No. 4, to work at Thung Salaeng Luang National Park. He explored the forest area surrounding Khun Chae Waterfall, Mae Pun Noi Forest, Mae Pun Luang Forest, and Huai Pong Men Forest which are located in Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai province, and were designated as National Reserved Forests in 1992.
The Cabinet approved the establishment of Khun Chae National Park through a resolution, A Royal Decree designated the land as a National Park in 1995. It was published on page 28 of volume 112, part 33 Ko. in the Government Gazette on August 14, 1995, the title "Khun Chae National Park".
